Dr. Marjolijn Verspoor is Professor of English Language and Chair of the English Department and teaches courses in Applied Linguistics and English Language and Culture. She currently team-teaches three courses in the MA-Applied Linguistics at the University of Groningen: Theoretical Perspectives, Research Methodology, and Teaching and Learning Aspects. In the English and Culture Department of the University of Groningen, she team-teaches the Introduction to English Linguistics course, which includes an introduction to construction grammar and a cognitive linguistic approach to English vocabulary. In the MA program she teaches a course in L2 (English) development, focusing on the acquisition of formulaic sequences, and next year she will team-teach a course in construction grammar in the Research Master. Her areas of expertise include English language and second language acquisition.

Besides her position with the International Journal of Language Studies, Dr Verspoor is also a regular reviewer for Research in Cognitive Linguistics, Cognitive Linguistics, Modern language journal and Language learning. She is also a member of the board of editors of the series Cognitive Linguistics in Practice (Amsterdam: Benjamins). She is also managing editor of the series Converging Evidence in Language and Communication Research (Amsterdam: Benjamins) of which eleven volumes have appeared.
